Reaching the World of Agony
< Return to How-To's Page >
The following guide is meant to briefly instruct the player of the Mod of the Agonizer how to enter the World of Agony, aka Dulia, where he or she is able to harvest painstone crystals from the bony landscape and fight Agonized minions while maybe taking an occasional bloodbath (or at least a bath in blood) to ultimately construct the Summonor of Agony, thus obtaining the means to fight the Agonizer himself! The Helmet of Agony sure is worth the trouble! Recipes and steps are as follows...
Crafting recipes:
Step 1: blow out a jukebox
The frame of the portal to the World of Agony is made out of obsidian that glows red with utter worldly pain. There is only one way to make obsidian glow in such a way: by dipping it in a jukebox that has been blown out in agony for itself and all who are forced to listen to its dying speaker's warblings. Shooting a blown jukebox with the Shard of LORE restores it to its original functioning form.
To ruin a jukebox, you must place it anywhere where it is accessible. Then, craft a bucket of earthly pain (recipes shown on top of page) and right click the jukebox while holding it, pouring the pain into the disk slot, thus blowing it out. Process shown below:

Step 2: dip obsidian into the burning remains of the broken jukebox
It's reeeeal toasty inside the wreckage of what used to be a jolly ol' jukebox. It's really not something you want to put your hand in, or really hardly anything else at all (well, except for potatoes, carrots and beets, but that's a how-to for another page...)
So how does one then get obsidian close enough to the molten anguished core to cause it to glow with pain? Start by making a glowing sword! By crafting another bucket of earthly pain, you can simply dip an iron sword into the contents of the bucket (via the crafting grid) to make a neat shiny pained sword that can withstand the heat of the blown jukebox. Next, with obsidian somewhere in your inventory, right click the blown jukebox while holding the glowing sword to "dip" the obisidian into the jukebox, causing the blocks to glow. Easy and safe, actually!

Step 3: build and ignite the frame
Once you have enough glowing obsidian, go ahead and build the portal frame! Like the portal to the Nether (a world similar to Agsefnadia, where the Great Flame was banished according to the Lores of Mōtia), the space in the frame must be at least--but can be more than--2 blocks wide and 3 blocks tall, making the minimum number of blocks required to be ten. Once you have the frame, all you need now is the means to ignite the portal.
To do that, you need... the Bubble Wand! To make it, you need two iron ingots and a glowing sword. Please note that using the glowing sword to make obsidian glow wears it out much like using any other tool, and it is important to know that the Bubble Wand can only be crafted using a glowing sword of at least 50% full durability. If you'd already used it more than 125 times, you can simply repair it on an anvil with some iron ingots, or, if fighting Withers is more your style than mining enough iron to make an anvil, just make yourself another glowing sword. Once you have the Bubble Wand, you only need right click anywhere inside the frame with it to ignite the doorway to douleur! (that's French for "pain". I mean hey, it's alliterative ^-^)
(Note: until v2024.04.18.1, full durability swords were required for crafting, and this page was created when the latest version was v2024.04.15.2. If you had viewed this page at any time from 4/15 and 4/17, please be aware of this change)

Step 4: walk through the portal
This step is included just in case some folks forget about this crucial stage in the journey to Dulia.
There's actually not that much to do there, but it's rich with painstone ore, a blood-red crystal that can make some pretty decent tools and armor, and there's scattered agonized trees too, adding a special variety of wood for some decorative building. Watch out for the Agonized minions!

Note: the portal frame for the Underworld aka Tartarus--the other dimension added by the MotA--is built out of ectoplasm blocks, and ignited with the Gem of the Dead. The ways to obtain both items are found in the recipes for Boss summonors page.
